Week 40: The Dreaded Weekly Email
Things I love:
- It poured SO HARD. I was walking around knocking on doors, talking with random people and out of nowhere it started POURING!! I love the rain! It made me so happy. By the time we got to a members house I was SOAKED so they made me change my clothes. I looked REAL CUTE ;)
- OH MY GOODNESS. We had a noche de hogar ( FHE – or family night) with a family in our ward. We asked everyone to draw a picture of their family and the grandpa, who hardly talks, drew a DUCK and said it was his family. Oh man I wish I had a picture of this strange looking duck. WHAT. HAhaha his daughter was laughing to hard his wife was just trying to figure it out. I love Grandpa.
- The neighborhood COW. We have seen it FOUR different times in different parts of town. I don’t think this random cow has an owner but it sure loves exploring the town. This week we finally got a picture with it :)
Things I’m learning to love:
- I caved. I couldn’t stand the sun anymore and I bought a grandma hat. Welllll it kinda looks more like a bonnet/pioneer hat. UGH. I feel so funny. BUT it covers the sun. And I just keep telling myself that everyone here wears them… so I fit in better, right?
- I HAVE BEEN HERE FOR 9 MONTHS. WHAT?!?!
- This week we were walking and we noticed a young lady with a MOUNTAIN of dirty clothes. Her house was one of the poorer ones here. She lived on a mud hill. Her house being at the top and her water supply being at the bottom. So in order to wash her clothes she had to drag her mountain of dirty clothes down the mud hill. We saw her with her two young kiddos and asked her if she needed any help. She looked confused, like wondering if we were actually serious, but she eventually accepted. We began digging into the bag to pull out clothes. It wasn’t long until we noticed that almost ALLLLL of the clothes were crusted with diarrhea and barf. Lovely. And her water supply was real small so we just kept using the same brown water to try to scrub the crusties off. As we were sitting there I was a little grossed out… with my hands covered in week old diarrhea… but then I began to think. How blessed am I? How blessed have I been in my life? How lucky am I to have experiences to be able to help those in need… It was a humbling experience to be able to help some one who was so in need of help. She later asked if we were going to charge her… because she said she didn’t even have 50cents. We told her no, we were just enjoying talking with her and helping her.
Enjoy THANKSGIVING this week! Eat way too much for me. Love you ALLLLL.
