Week 12: the Dreaded Email

Hola!
Haha so. This week during weekly planning I made a goal to find more opportunities to serve… Be careful what you wish for because then THE FLOOD DOORS of service opportunities opened. We helped bathe babies. We helped wash clothes. We helped garden. We helped wash dishes. And we have more appointments for service this week.

From all this service I learned:
  1. I´m grateful for washing machines.
  2. I´m grateful for bathtubs and hot water.
  3. I´m grateful for power tools.
  4. I´m for sinks that are normal height so I don´t have to hunch.
  5. Basically, I learned I´m really grateful for how spoiled I am in the United States.

Things I love:
  1. GOT A LETTER THIS WEEK. Yup. It made my whole week. So if you people get bored and feel like writing me a letter, please do! I´ll explain the most simple way below but I love letters!! And that way I don´t have to speed read I can read it as many times as I want.
  2. We had a member of our ward (church) come teaching with us this week and she asked me how long I had lived in Bolivia. When I said I had lived here for a month and a half she told me my Spanish was incredible – she thought I had lived here for much longer. Alright, I know she was just being nice but I´ll take it and pretend she was being honest.
  3. This week I was teaching a family and I pulled out my Libro de Mormon for children and the little boy I was teaching pointed to the donkey and said, “En Ingles este es ASS?”. Haha I just laughed and nodded my head J
  4. I was trying to tell a story about my little brother Seth this week and I started laughing so hard I couldn´t speak. Telling stories in another language is REALLY hard. It was about when he fell and hit his head and got a golf ball on his forhead and then started crying because he thought he was going to look like an alien for the rest of his life. I told the story because one of the little boy we were visiting fell and hit his forehead too. I don´t think the understood. They all just stared at me and started laughing because I was laughing so hard.

Things I´m learning to love:
  1. The internet. GUYS. I was supposed to be able to skype my family for mothers day… but the internet only worked for about 25min. WAHHH. I almost cried. If I was a crier I would have. I want to see my nieces and nephew… and my siblings of course. It worked for me to be able to see my parents. My dad said I looked fat. Haha guess the ice cream is catching up to me. Don´t worry, my dad´s double chin has gotten larger too.
  2. When I talk with certain people they´ll just look at me like I´m crazy and then look at my comp. Then my comp will say LITERALLY WORD FOR WORD the EXACT same thing that I said and they´ll understand. I know, I know my Spanish is rough but come on. I SAID THE EXACT SAME THING.
  3. Directions here do not exist. Seriously. No street names in my area. No house numbers. Nothing. It´s ridiculously hard trying to figure out where people live. One lady looked at me like I was so stupid for not understanding exactly where her casa was when her directions were, “mass arriba”. UHHHH I NEED MORE THAN THAT. I´m already directionally challenged, ok?!
  4. This week I watched people repair a road. They hand placed each rock and then poured gravel/dirt over. I don´t understand how that’s easier than paving the road?! Come on. Walking on pavement is so much easier!!!

IF YOU´D LIKE TO WRITE ME A LETTER:
Keep it short. Ha not because I don´t want to hear lots be if you send 1 page and fold it into thirds it´s way more likely I´ll get it. So. 1 page. No envelope. Fold it into thirds and write the following address:

Andrea Hoffman
Casilla de Correo 1375
Cochabamba, Cochabamba Bolivia

IT´S ONLY ONE STAMP.  And!!! I will write you back!!

Kthxbai. J
