Week 9: The Dreaded Email
Today was the greatest. Last night I asked my comp what she wanted to do for P-day. Of course we have to clean our casa, wash our clothes blah blah blah. And she wanted to stay at home. So I asked her if we could go running in the mountains (she thinks running in circles around the basketball court is great). She said no. Haha So I begged. POR FAVOR?!?! I told her she could walk. So we did! WE EXPLORED IN THE MOUNTAINS THIS MORNING. And I know my comp loved it. Before we left she said we should bring our cameras and when we got up high she wanted to take a picture about every 30ft. We found this little stream of water dripping over some rocks, “a waterfall” and we probably took 10 pictures there. We found abandoned houses, cows, gardens… So glad she liked it, that means more exploring nextweek!
Favorite scriptures this week:
John 6:69-71 In 69 Jesus´s apostles say they believe are sure that he is the Christ and just a couple verses later it talks about Jesus being betrayed. To me it shows us how important it is to continually strengthen our faith. Because we can be sure in one moment but if we don´t continually strengthen it we will waiver.
Matthew 22:37-40 We are commanded to love. Which means there is agency involved. One speaker I heard asked if we could fall out of kindness??! So then he asked, can you just fall out of love?! I know there are different types of love but I thought it was an interesting point. I read an article that said it was easy to love the Lord because He is perfect but to love others is harder, why? Because we aren´t perfect…Then it asked why do parents love their children? Because they are continually serving them. When you serve others it is easier to love them.
In the Book of Mormon Alma 32:17-18 It talks about faith. I think to have doubts is easy, but to have faith is very difficult.
Things I love:
- My house has a little shop out front. It´s the best! There´s two grandma ladies we rent our casa from; Hermana Elva and Hermana Domotila. In the morning when I want eggs I walk outside and ask Hermana Elva for eggs. When I need some chocolate or ice cream Hermana Elva´s got my back. Herman Domotila reminds me of my grandma: tiny, spunky and full of energy.
- My companion copies and it´s so FUNNY. I make a lot of weird noises when we´re walking or when I´m bored and she´ll copy me…. Or when I hear a cow moo I´ll typically moo back at it and now she always does too. Probably more than me. It´s entertaining.
- THE FRUIT HERE. I bought enough fruit to feed my entire family for a week (and my family is huge). And! It was only about $7 American. I got manderines (which are green here), bananas, apples, papaya and pineapple. Hopefully I find a way to eat it all.
- I speak English now. Haha When I don’t understand what´s going on I´ll respond to my companion in English. It keeps me sane. And it´s so funny. She just looks at me and says she doesn´t understand… and I say That´s how I feel ALLLLL the time J
- Another English mess up by my comp. We were reading the Book of Mormon out loud, her in English and me in Spanish. She was reading, “And it came to pass…” but instead she said, “and it came to piss..”.
Things I´m learning to love:
- Hand washing my clothes every P-day. Hmmhmm. Why would I want to spend my one day off washing my clothes by hand?! But I will say I´m pretty good at it. Even though Hermana Domotila and my comp laugh at me. My clothes smell fine and they look clean enough and I´m Reallllly fast at it. So uhhh that´s all that matters, right?! I´ll probably open up a hand-washing business for clothes when I get back.
- I hate being told what to do. Like, it´s comical how much I hate it. Even when I know someone is just being nice to me I want to do the opposite of what they told me to do. Just because they told me to do it. When my comp says “Bamos” I sometimes want to sit down right where I am. Working on this one, daily.
- Cold sores. I hate them. I don´t think I´ll learn to love them. They´re the worst.
- THE CHOLITAS. Ok. I actually love them already… but the world is their toilet. You never know if they´re sitting or going to the bathroom. And even more so with every child here. They other day I saw a mom picking up her kids poo (I almost made it through a whole email without mentioning poo, almost) from off the ground with a plastic bag. Yes, atleast she picked it up. And! Think how easy it would be to potty train here. I just never know what I´m stepping in.
- Sorry for another novel, but thanks for all the love!!
