Week 15 - The Dreaded Weekly Email
There´s a word they use here for a major beating, physical, verbal… WASKA is the word. It´s not even a Spanish word but we use it all the time. ¨He gives major WASKA¨(typically referring to a major verbal beating). Anyways, this week I read an article from President Ezra Taft Benson titled, ¨Beware of Pride and man-oh-man it was some major WASKA for me. One of my favorite parts said, ¨Our degree of pride determines how we treat our God and our brothers and sisters…¨ Oh man. I have a lot of pride. Too much pride. Another part I really liked said, ¨We can choose to be humble by conquering enmity toward our brothers and sisters, esteeming them as our selves, and lifting them as high or higher then we are.¨ I obviously have a lot to learn. I recommend this talk if anyone is feeling like they need some major WASKA – or maybe I´m just super prideful .
Things I love:
- I got a couple letters from my 16 and 21 year old brothers… but the best part about it was my compi looked at the handwriting and was like, ¨You got letters from your nieces!!¨(whom are 2 and 4). Hahaha Aaron and Seth, you guys need to work on your penmanship, but thanks for the letters!
- One day this week I was SOOO tired. When my alarm went off I rolled over, got on my knees and prayed so hard that I could sleep more. When I got up to start getting ready I looked at my clock and it was 4:30am. PRAYERS ARE ANSWERED! I had forgotten to change my alarm and had 2 more hours to sleep, WAHOOO. It was the best two hours of sleep I have ever had.
- Mothers day here is the best. We went around to a bunch of different families and shared a message about the importance of mothers and what a sacred calling it is. WE GOT FED ICE CREAM CAKE 3 TIMES FOR MOTHERS DAY. I love ice cream cake, so much. I wish mothers day was everyday.
- The two old ladies we live love to play pranks on each other. One night this week I decided I´d join in. One of them had a stuffed animal bear hanging on the line. It gets really cold at night so I put some gloves, socks, a scarf and a sign that said, ¨Yo tengo Frio¨(which means I´m cold) and hung the bear right in front of her door. Haha In the morning one of the ladies got scared by the bear and ran and dragged her sister out of bed. Haha Whoops. When they told my what had happened I couldn´t stop laughing.
Things I´m learning to love:
- I´m going bald. I thought the other sister missionaries were crazy when they told me their hair fell out here but IT´S TRUE. I lose so much hair everyday. I´m surprised there is still hair on my head. Here's to getting fat AND getting bald! Whoop whoop.
- On Saturday night at 9:45pm our bishop called us and asked to speak in front of the congregation on Sunday. WHAT. I can´t come up with a message that quickly in SPANISH. Merp. I did my best. I just quoted a lot of scriptures and read a story.
- I was fed a MOUNTAIN (kid you not) of arroz con queso (cheesy rice) this week. I got the point where I was so full I could hardly breath. I tried to take a couple big breaths to create some more room but at that exact time our pensionista looked at me. Haha She asked me if I was full…. Whoops YES BECAUSE I HAD A MOUNTAIN ON MY PLATE… but thank you it´s so delicious. :)
- Compy and I had to perform in the ward activity this week. I hate performing…. But in our skit we had an investigator(one of the elders) fall asleep on us. I had to pretend to smack him to wake him up. When he didn´t wake up all the kids in the audience ran up and starting hitting the Elder in the face haha.
