Week 3: The Dreaded Weekly Email
Mi familia y amigos!!
This week has been MUY BIEN. Spanish is still kicking my toosh but I’m
ever so slowly starting to pick things up. Kinda. I´m still praying
(in Spanglish) for the gift of tongues.
We went OUTSIDE THE WALLS on Saturday. Oh what a beautiful day that
was. Not only did we leave the compound but we were able to meet and
talk with REAL people. We went out knocking doors to REAL people´s
houses – not like the fake investigators that we teach everyday here
(yes we teach fake investigators – our teachers pretend to be
investigators). There were 5 of us Hermanas together. I had one phrase
I repeated to everyone we met;
“¡Hola! Nosotras somos Misioneras de La Iglesia de Jesucristo de Los
Santos de Los Últimos Días.”
Aka
“Hi! We are missionaries of the Church of Jesus Chris of Latter-day Saints.”
Doesn’t get more missionary than that.
Yeah. You could basically say I´m fluent. KIDDING. Once the
conversation got passed that I understood about 1 out of every 21
words said. But next week it could be 3 out of every 21 words said… so
uhhh WOOOP WOOP, I GOT THIS.
It was a pretty incredible experience (even if I understood very
little of what was being said) to be invited into strangers houses to
discuss and share what we believe (don’t worry, the other Hermanas
were a little more fluent than me). I´m so skeptical, I had a hard
time believing that people would be genuinely interested in what we
were saying. I try to put myself in their shoes and I just cannot see
myself wanting to know about some 19-25 year olds beliefs
(hypocritical, I know).
I am here because of the light and hope this Gospel has brought to my
life. I want everyone to know of that. I´m must have believed a little
bit that someone would want to listen – or that someone would be
searching for hope because that is why I am here.
Things I love:
1. Being able to eat food.
2. ICE CREAM.
3. one of the days they left the ice cream freezer open so I ate ice
cream for breakfast. Thus begins my 20lb weight gain.
Things I am learing to love:
1. Timed emails
2. a companion who follows rules
3. following rules.
Thanks for all the emails!!!
